3. Cuộc kháng chiến chống Mỹ, cứu nước của dân tộc Việt Nam là cuộc chiến tranh chính nghĩa, luôn được nhân dân tiến bộ trên thế giới ủng hộ, tạo nên sức mạnh vô địch. Thượng sĩ Donald Duncan là một người có tư tưởng chống cộng cứng rắn trước khi đến nước ta, nhưng khi rời khỏi Việt Nam con người đó đã thay đổi. Những gì diễn ra trong cuộc chiến ở Việt Nam mà Duncan cảm nhận được đã thôi thúc xuất bản một bản cáo trạng về cuộc chiến tranh đăng Tạp chí Ramparts (tháng 02-1965). Trong đó, có đoạn: “Tôi đã phải chấp nhận rằng… đại đa số người dân là những người ủng hộ Việt Cộng và chống lại chính quyền Sài Gòn. Tôi cũng phải chấp nhận rằng quan điểm: “Chúng tôi ở Việt Nam bởi vì chúng tôi thông cảm với những khát vọng và ước muốn của người dân Việt Nam”, là một lời dối trá”10.
