Khái niệm thị trường chứng khoán:
Thị trường chứng khoán là nơi diễn ra các giao dịch mua bán, trao đổi các loại chứng khoán. Chứng khoán được hiểu là các loại giấy tờ có giá hay bút toán ghi sổ, nó cho phép chủ sở hữu có quyền yêu cầu về thu nhập và tài sản của tổ chức phát hành hoặc quyền sở hữu. Các quyền yêu cầu này có sự khác nhau giữa các loại chứng khoán, tuỳ theo tính chất sở hữu của chúng.
Các giao dịch mua bán, trao đổi chứng khoán có thể diễn ra ở thị trường sơ cấp (Primary Market) hay thị trường thứ cấp (Secondary Market), tại Sở giao dịch (Stock Exchange) hay thị trường chứng khoán phi tập trung (Over ư The Counter Market), ở thị trường giao ngay (Spot Market) hay thị trường có kỳ hạn (Future Market). Các quan hệ mua bán trao đổi này làm thay đổi chủ sở hữu của chứng khoán, và như vậy, thực chất đây chính là quá trình vận động của tư bản, chuyển từ tư bản sở hữu sang tư bản kinh doanh.
Thị trường chứng khoán không giống với thị trường các hàng hoá thông thường khác vì hàng hoá của thị trường chứng khoán là một loại hàng hoá đặc biệt, là quyền sở hữu về tư bản. Loại hàng hoá này cũng có giá trị và giá trị sử dụng. Như vậy, có thể nói, bản chất của thị trường chứng khoán là thị trường thể hiện mối quan hệ giữa cung và cầu của vốn đầu tưmà ở đó, giá cả của chứng khoán chứa đựng thông tin về chi phí vốn hay giá cả của vốn đầu tư.
