Mục đích của việc dạy ngoại ngữ khô

Mục đích của việc dạy ngoại ngữ không phải là cung cấp cho học sinh kiến thức của ngôn ngữ đó, mà mục đích cuối cùng của việc dạy ngoại ngữ nói chung, tiếng Anh nói riêng là dạy học sinh khả năng giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh. Khả năng giao tiếp của học sinh thể hiện qua các kỹ năng: Nghe, Nói, Đọc, Viết. Các kỹ năng đó của học sinh được hình thành qua một quá trình học tập rèn luyện trong môi trường Anh ngữ.
Ở bậc Tiểu học, việc học ngoại ngữ nói chung và môn học tiếng Anh nói riêng là một môn học rất mới mẻ. Để giúp cho các em học sinh bước đầu có những khái niệm cơ bản về môn học cũng như làm quen với một ngôn ngữ mới, đòi hỏi giáo viên phải thật khéo léo trong việc giới thiệu ngữ liệu mới, giáo viên cần phải dùng giáo cụ minh họa một cách thật chính xác. Mặt khác nếu như có sự chuẩn bị chu đáo từ phía giáo viên khi soạn giảng, học sinh có thể tiếp thu một lượng kiến thức lớn và khó trong một thời gian ngắn.
Trong quá trình tiếp thu ngôn ngữ, học sinh sẽ đạt được kết quả học tập cao nếu các em có động cơ học tập. Đối với học sinh tiểu học, động cơ học tập có được khi các em cảm thấy được hứng thú đối với môn học và thấy được sự tiến bộ của chính mình.
