Vai trò:
- Giao thông đô thị là điều kiện tiên quyết để phát triển đô thị.
- Là thước đo trình độ phát triển của một quốc gia, của một xã hội.
- Giao thông chiếm một vị trí quan trọng trong kết cấu hạ tầng kỹ thuật của đô thị.
Chức năng:
- Chức năng giao thông: liên hệ, vận chuyển, đi lại, trao đổi thông tin giũa các khu
vực, vùng, miền, các đô thị với nhau...
Đặc điểm của đường đô thị:
Đường trong đô thị có nhiều chức năng khác nhau nên đường đô thị có nhiều bộ phận,
cấu tạo khác với đường ô tô thông thường.
- Giao thông: lưu lượng và mật độ cao => kích thước và quy mô lớn hơn.
- Mật độ mạng lưới (tỷ lệ giữa diện tích dành cho đường và diện tích của đô thị)
