Tôi chỉ ở Tokyo hai ngày rồi bắt tàu đi Nikko. Có lẽ tôi quá già nên chẳng phù hợp với thành phố đắt đỏ bậc nhất thế giới này. Thành phố gì mà đông kinh khủng! phố xá, nhà ga toàn những con người mặc vest đen vội vã đầy stress, khó mà tìm ra nụ cười ở chốn phồn hoa này.

Shinkansen dừng ở ga Utsunomiya tôi đổi qua Nikko line đi Nikko. Nikko bắt đầu gây cảm tình cho tôi từ con tàu, từ màu sơn cho đến ga Nikko nơi tàu dừng bánh. Nhà ga nho nhỏ với kiến trúc cổ xưa gợi nhớ ga Đà Lạt xứ mình dễ sợ.
Tôi ghé quầy vé mua pass xe bus 2 ngày rồi rời ga đi về nhà trọ Sumaica cách đó chỉ vài phút đi bộ. Nhà trọ tôi ở của một cặp vợ chồng trẻ cũng có máu đi chơi dữ lắm! Nhà trọ bé xíu nhưng rất gọn & vợ chồng chủ thì tốt bụng thân thiện hết cỡ. Giờ check in ở đây là 4pm nên tôi gởi balo hành lý lại rồi bắt đầu lang thang khám phá Nikko.
Nếu đi cho hết những nơi tôi lọc ra từ Lonely Planet & Tripavisor thì ít nhất tôi phải có bốn ngày ở đây mới đủ. Nhưng tôi không có dài ngày như thế nên tôi buộc phải lọc lại rồi tranh thủ sắp xếp thời gian hợp lý theo thời tiết nơi đây để vừa đi chơi được vừa thoải mái thư giản chứ không buộc mình phải chạy "show" đánh dấu check in.
Nikko yên bình đến lạ. Nikko nhỏ xíu nhưng cũng quyến rũ lắm. Chiều thu nắng nhẹ, tôi rảo bước trên con đường của những hàng cây lá vàng lá đỏ, của những cửa hiệu be bé xinh xinh thưa thớt khách để đắm mình vào một Nikko yên ắng như dành cho tôi.

Những ngày thu tôi đến Nikko khá lạnh, trời rất mau tối & càng về đêm Nikko càng lạnh hơn. Nikko quyến rũ tôi từ ngôi đền, từ hàng cây ven đường đến nụ cười thân thiện của những người bán hàng ở đây & dĩ nhiên là có cả sự thân thiện ân cần của vợ chồng chủ nhà trọ. Tất cả đã làm cho tôi thấy yêu nơi này nhiều hơn.
Đêm Nikko vắng kinh khủng! Hàng quán chiều là đóng cửa rồi, lác đác đâu đó vài tiệm ăn còn đỏ đèn đón khách. Tôi ghé siêu thị nhỏ gần trọ, mua ít đồ ăn cho buổi tối & phần ăn sáng cho hôm sau rồi mang về nhà trọ ăn tối cùng đám backpackers từ khắp nơi đang ngụ tại đây vừa ăn vừa nói chuyện chia sẻ những chuyến đi hay những nơi cần đến ở Nikko.

Nhà trọ tôi ở không to nên khách không loãng như những nhà trọ ở nơi khác tôi từng ở qua. Chúng tôi hầu như biết tên nhau & cảm thấy thân thiện với nhau như đã biết nhau từ trước. Tôi tranh thủ PR cho đất nước mình, lấy hình tôi chụp ở Côn Đảo, Hội An, Sapa... ra dụ tụi nó tới chơi & kết quả là một thằng người Tây Ban Nha dính chấu! Nó bảo sang tuần nó sẽ bay sang Hà Nội rồi từ đây làm một chuyến xuyên Việt luôn!

Đang tám chuyện thì tôi nhận được comment của cô bạn ở Tokyo đã từng đi Nikko bảo tôi phải thử đi tắm onsen ở vùng này mới được. Tôi quay sang hỏi vợ chồng chủ trọ, vậy là anh chồng cao hứng ngay: "Đúng! Mày phải thử onsen ở đây! Onsen ngoài trời rất tốt! Xài nước ngầm thiệt chứ không phải hàng fake như các nơi khác đâu!" Tôi hỏi lại anh giờ này còn đi được không vì đã 10h tối & ngoài phố không một bóng người. Anh bảo onsen đúng là phải tắm trước lúc đi ngủ mới tốt! Anh nói vợ chồng anh mỗi tuần đều đi 3-4 lần... Tôi thích thú khi nghe anh thao thao bất tuyệt về onsen và muốn thử ngay lập tức nhưng không biết phải đi sao lúc khuya khoắc thế này khi onsen ngoài trời ấy cách nhà trọ mấy cây số. Như đọc được ý nghĩ của tôi anh ấy nói ngay "Thien, bạn muốn đi onsen không tôi lấy xe chở đi!"

Ôi trời, người đâu ra mà tốt vậy chứ? Giữa đêm trời lạnh không chịu úm vợ ngủ đi cho khoẻ nhỉ? Hihi tôi suy nghĩ thoáng qua như vậy rồi nhanh chóng về phòng thay đồ đi onsen với anh bạn nữa ở cùng.
Chạy xe chừng 7' là tới onsen, onsen này ngoài trời bao bọc quanh hồ tắm là cây lá phong rất đẹp, mở cửa từ chiều đến 2h sáng & ở đây ghi là 26:00. Giá vé là 800 yen tương đương với 160k tiền Việt bên mình. Quy trình tắm onsen đơn giản đại khái là sau khi vào phòng tắm ( nam nữ riêng biệt ) cởi bỏ hết đồ cất vào locker xong tắm sạch trước rồi mới xuống hồ onsen ngâm mình. Luôn chuẩn bị một cái khăn nhỏ để thấm nước ướt đội lên đầu lúc ngâm mình. Ngâm đã đời xong lên tắm lại sạch sau đó xuống ngâm lại chút nữa rồi lên lau khô mặc đồ vào đi về. Lần đầu đi onsen tôi không biết rõ quy trình nên được đưa cho một tờ giấy với hình vẽ minh hoạ các bước tắm onsen để ngâm cứu hihi.

Tắm onsen cũng như bên mình đi tắm suối nước nóng nhưng quy cũ hơn & phổ biến hơn... cũng như buộc phải tắm trần truồng lúc mới vào dị muốn chết nhưng dần dần cũng thấy bình thường trở lại. Nói chung tắm cái này sau một ngày đi chơi rục giò rất đã vậy nên sau đó tôi ghiền luôn hahha.
Đúng hẹn là sau 1h30 anh chủ nhà trọ chạy qua rước về. Anh ríu rít hỏi cảm giác lần đầu tắm onsen thấy sao có thích không & trên đường về anh dừng xe cho chúng tôi thấy những con nai đang đứng gặm cỏ ở hai bên đường hay bảng hiệu thông báo có gấu nơi này và bảo rằng khu này gấu cũng xuất hiện nhiều lắm!
Tắm onsen xong người khoẻ hẳn, tôi leo lên giường đánh một giấc dài mặc cho mấy bạn backpacker cùng phòng khi ngủ ngáy rất to & có người còn hay lục đục cả đêm...

Sớm mai mặt trời lên rất sớm đúng như tên gọi "xứ mặt trời mọc", tôi ra bến xe bus bắt xe đi theo lộ trình đã vạch đêm qua.
Vùng Nikko lá đỏ lá vàng mùa thu đến rất sớm. Đến Nikko đa số là để đi hiking nên trên chuyến bus sớm bạn dễ dàng nhận thấy vô số du khách già có trẻ có lưng vác balo chân mang giày hiking chen nhau đứng ngồi đầy xe. Tôi cũng hoà vào dòng du khách ấy & đã sững sờ khi xe đi qua những cánh rừng lá vàng lá đỏ rực rỡ, những con dốc ngọn đèo quanh co hay những hàng cây che rợp đường vàng óng màu lá thu dưới ánh nắng mai như rót mật vàng tươi.

Tôi đã có 4 giờ hiking quanh hồ Chuzenji xinh đẹp, chưa bao giờ tôi được đi trên con đường ven hồ đẹp như vậy! Càng đi càng thích và không biết mệt. Mà mệt sao được khi con đường tôi đi ngập sắc vàng đỏ của những tán lá thu, rồi hồ nước trong veo, khí trời mát lạnh, đi mỏi chân thì có những ngôi nhà nhỏ để nghỉ chân ven hồ... Tất cả đã làm tôi đắm say, si cuồng không muốn bước vội, sợ mình sẽ tiếc nuối đoạn đường 14km quanh hồ sẽ chóng qua...
Lẽ ra tôi còn đi thêm vài nơi nữa theo lịch tôi đã vạch. Tôi mua pass đi không giới hạn trong 2 ngày nên có thể đi tất cả những nơi mình muốn thế nhưng tôi lại dừng... Dừng không phải vì mệt, vì mỏi chân mà là vì bỗng nhiên tôi muốn ngồi thừ ra bên hồ, nhấm nháp ly cafe để ngắm thiên nhiên nơi này, để hít sâu hơn mùi thu bên hồ cùng sắc đỏ sắc vàng của lá thu đang rực... để cái cảm giác mùa thu vàng ấy từ từ lan chảy khắp cơ thể mình thay vì phải hối hả ra trạm bus đón xe đi.

Những ngày ở Nikko của tôi đã trôi qua nhẹ nhàng như thế đó! Chẳng vội vã, không ồn ào... mà mọi thứ lắng đọng, nhẹ nhàng, yên ả trôi qua như chiếc lá thu rơi nhẹ bên hồ theo làn gió mỏng lững lờ trôi. Đêm cuối ở Nikko, đám backpacker chúng tôi quây quần bên cái bàn nhỏ tám chuyện với nhau tiếp tục vì ban đêm chẳng biết đi đâu ở đây và ngoài trời vài cơn gió thu thoảng qua nhưng cũng khá lạnh. Tôi gởi món quà nhỏ là chiếc túi vải có in hình cây cầu Rồng ở quê nhà cho cô vợ chủ nhà trọ & nhận được lời cảm ơn rối rít...

Tôi rời Nikko vào buổi sáng thu sau hai ngày đắm mình trong sắc màu mùa thu vùng cao bình dị. Hình ảnh một nước Nhật xinh đẹp thân thiện an toàn từ vùng Nikko đã để lại trong tôi cảm tình vô bờ. Nhìn slogan trên tàu đi Nikko mới thấy người Nhật nói đúng: Nikko is Nippon.
Tin tôi đi, đến Nikko bạn cũng sẽ thích nơi này như tôi...
