Di tích lịch sử quốc gia 27/7 thuộc xóm Bàn Cờ, xã Hùng Sơn, huyện Đại Từ là nơi ghi dấu sự kiện ngày 27/7/1947 tại gốc Đa xóm Bàn Cờ đã diễn ra một cuộc mít tinh trọng thể gồm 300 cán bộ, bộ đội và đại diện các tầng lớp nhân dân địa phương họp mặt nghe công bố bức thư­ của Bác Hồ ghi nhận sự ra đời ngày Thương binh liệt sĩ ở nước ta. Đây cũng chính là bức thư­ đầu tiên Ngư­ời gửi cho anh em thương bệnh binh.

Để ghi nhớ công lao to lớn của Bác Hồ vĩ đại và các anh hùng liệt sĩ đã ngã xuống vì độc lập, tự do cho Tổ quốc. Ngày 3/2/1997, Bộ Lao động và Thương binh xã hội đã tiến hành khởi công xây dựng Nhà tưởng niệm, trư­ng bày truyền thống, khuôn viên di tích với tổng diện tích khoảng 3.000m2. Công trình được hoàn thành đưa vào sử dụng trong dịp kỷ niệm 50 năm ngày Thương binh liệt sĩ 27-7-1997 và được nâng cấp vào năm 2007.

Khu di tích có khuôn viên rộng, hồ sen đẹp; có cổng Tam quan, sân hành lễ, khối đá lớn khắc chữ ghi tóm tắt lịch sử ra đời ngày thương binh liệt sĩ 27/7. Hàng năm vào ngày 27/7 nhân dân các dân tộc huyện Đại Từ nói riêng và tỉnh Thái Nguyên nói chung nô nức về nơi đây thắp nén hương thơm, tỏ lòng thành kính tưởng nhớ công lao to lớn của Bác Hồ vĩ đại và các anh hùng liệt sĩ.

Nằm trong khuôn viên Khu di tích còn có Nghè ông, là nơi thờ tiến sĩ Đồng Doãn Khuê (1701- ?) sinh tại làng Bàn Cờ, xã Hùng Sơn, huyện Đại Từ và đỗ Tiến sĩ khoa Bính Thìn niên hiệu Vĩnh Hựu năm thứ 2 (1736). Nghè bà thờ hai công chúa Mai Hoa và Quế Hoa. Mùng 7 tết nguyên đán hàng năm bà con nhân dân nơi đây sắm lễ vật mở hội vui xuân tại Nghè thành tâm cầu cho Quốc thái dân an, mùa màng tươi tốt.

Di tích lịch sử quốc gia 27/7 là công trình văn hoá lịch sử có ý nghĩa to lớn, đáp ứng nhu cầu du khách trong và ngoài tỉnh đến tham quan và tưởng nhớ công lao to lớn của Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh và các anh hùng liệt sĩ, thưởng ngoạn cảnh quan một vùng đất địa linh, sơn thuỷ hữu tình. Đây cũng là điểm nối với tuyến tham quan khu du lịch Hồ Núi Cốc và đi thăm các khu di tích trong Huyện nối với các điểm di tích lịch sử cách mạng An toàn khu ATK Định Hoá và Tân Trào - Tuyên quang.
