Tháng 9 năm 2008, Mỹ tuyên bố tham

Tháng 9 năm 2008, Mỹ tuyên bố tham gia TPP. Tiếp theo đó, tháng 11 năm 2008, Úc và Pê-ru cũng tuyên bố tham gia TPP. Tại buổi họp báo công bố việc tham gia của Úc và Pê-ru, đại diện các bên khẳng định sẽ đàm phán để thiết lập một khuôn khổ mới cho TPP. Kể từ đó, các vòng đàm phán TPP được lên lịch và diễn ra cho đến nay.
Đầu năm 2009, Việt Nam quyết định tham gia Hiệp định TPP với tư cách thành viên liên kết. Tháng 11 năm 2010, sau khi tham gia 3 phiên đàm phán TPP với tư cách này, Việt Nam đã chính thức tham gia đàm phán TPP. Trước đó, tháng 10 năm 2010, Malaysia cũng chính thức tham gia vào TPP, nâng tổng số nước tham gia đàm phán lên thành 9 nước. Canada và Mexico chính thức trở thành người tham gia đàm phán TPP vào tháng 10 năm 2012 và Nhật bản là nước chính thức tham gia đàm phán cuối cùng vào ngày 23 tháng 07 năm 2013.
