Liquidity
The concept of liquidity is also intrinsically linked to both sides of the balance sheet of the bank. It involves a combination of the assets of a bank holding and different sources of funding for the banks, especially the liabilities must be repaid in due course.
It is very useful useful to distinguish between two kinds of risks facing the bank's liquidity (3) These are .:
• Liquidity risk funds: this is the risk that the bank did not have enough cash or collateral for payment to its partners and their customers as their maturity (or can only do so by liquidating assets with cost overruns). In this case, the bank defaults. This is sometimes called the bank had become "cash flow insolvent '.
Regulation capital
This section sets out, at a high level, the legal framework which applies to banks in the UK . Frames are shown in EU legislation based on the standards 'Basel' international consensus. The EU legislation has recently been updated, reflecting the Basel III standards.
As mentioned above, the key rate that is useful in thinking about how much capital a bank needs. The front is defined leverage ratio of a bank's capital divided by its total assets. But of course, some assets higher risk than others, and each property can be assigned a risk weighting adventurous way it is judged to be. The weights are then applied to the assets of the bank, resulting in significant risk assets (RWAs). This allows the bank, investors and regulators to consider important risk capital ratio, which is the capital of a bank as part of RWAs of it. Another way to think about this approach is to consider a different capital requirement for each property, depending on their type of risk. The bank may alter their rate by adjusting the numerator - its capital - or denominator - Risk method. For example, they can improve their capital ratios by increasing the amount of capital they are financed with, or reduce the risk or the amount of their assets. (1) People often mention the expected loss ratio requirements on the absolute amount of capital. But change either the numerator or denominator will change the ratio and reduce this shortfall.
