The solar panels convert light directly into electricity, as is often seen in the handheld computer or wristwatch. They are made of semiconductor materials similar in the electronics of the computer. When sunlight is absorbed by these materials, the solar energy will knock the charged particles (electrons) low in atomic energy of the semiconductor material, allowing the charged particles move in materials and create electricity. Photovoltaic technique widely developed only in civilian applications since the oil crisis in 1973.
