Đại học Thủ Dầu Một – Đại học công lập của tỉnh Bình Dương
Tiền thân là trường Cao đẳng Sư phạm Bình Dương (từ năm 1976 đến 2009), Đại học Thủ Dầu Một được thành lập theo Quyết định số: 900/QĐ-TTg ngày 24 tháng 6 năm 2009 của Thủ tướng Chính phủ. Sứ mệnh của trường là đào tạo nguồn nhân lực chất lượng cao phục vụ cho quá trình phát triển kinh tế, xã hội của tỉnh Bình Dương, các tỉnh Đông Nam Bộ, vùng kinh tế trọng điểm phía Nam và cả nước; nghiên cứu khoa học, ứng dụng và chuyển giao khoa học công nghệ, cung ứng sản phẩm và dịch vụ cho thị trường.
Năm 2015, đội ngũ cán bộ khoa học của trường có 01 giáo sư, 08 phó giáo sư tiến sĩ, 56 tiến sĩ, 454 thạc sĩ, 40 cán bộ - giảng viên đang làm nghiên cứu sinh trong và ngoài nước. Song song với việc xây dựng đội ngũ cán bộ khoa học cơ hữu, nhà trường còn tranh thủ sự hậu thuẫn của cán bộ khoa học có trình độ chuyên môn cao ở các trường thuộc Đại học Quốc gia thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội, Trường Đại học Sư phạm thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, nhất là đối với lĩnh vực trường có thế mạnh về các ngành khoa học xã hội và nhân văn.
Tháng 8/2015, Trường chính thức được Bộ Giáo dục cho phép tuyển sinh 05 ngành đào tạo Cao học, đánh dấu một bước phát triển quan trọng của Nhà trường. Hiện nay, quy mô của trường là 18.000 học viên, sinh viên đang học tập và nghiên cứu ở 5 ngành sau đại học, 22 ngành đại học, 6 ngành cao đẳng thuộc các lĩnh vực kinh tế, kỹ thuật, khoa học tự nhiên, khoa học xã hội nhân văn và sư phạm.
Qua 6 năm hình thành và phát triển, trường đã định hình là một cơ sở giáo dục đa ngành, đa lĩnh vực theo định hướng nghiên cứu. Với phương châm “Tri thức – Phát triển – Phồn vinh”, trường Đại học Thủ Dầu Một đang dần khẳng định vị thế của một cơ sở đào tạo, nghiên cứu khoa học chất lượng cao, là đại diện tiêu biểu cho sức mạnh tri thức của tuổi trẻ tỉnh Bình Dương.
Chiến lược phát triển
• Đến năm 2018, hoàn thành kiểm định chất lượng giáo dục và đạt chuẩn AUN 20% số ngành đào tạo
• Đến năm 2020, được công nhận đại học ứng dụng
• Đến năm 2025, trở thành đại học nghiên cứu
Về quy mô đào tạo, đến năm 2020, Đại học Thủ Dầu Một phấn đấu xây dựng hệ thống đào tạo gồm 56 ngành đại học và sau đại học với quy mô trên 24.000 sinh viên, trở thành cơ sở đào tạo ngang tầm với các trường Đại học có uy tín trong nước, tiến tới tiếp cận chuẩn mực giáo dục đại học khu vực và thế giới.
Về định hướng phát triển thành đại học nghiên cứu, trường Đại học Thủ Dầu Một đang tập trung hoàn thiện lộ trình xây dựng chương trình đào tạo theo chuẩn CDIO; triển khai các chương trình, đề án nghiên cứu toàn diện, quan trọng, làm nền tảng cho nhiều công trình nghiên cứu khác. Một trong những chương trình trọng điểm đang triển khai là Đề án nghiên cứu về Đông Nam Bộ.
