Ngày nay, Internet trở nên rất phổ biến và thông dụng với mọi người trong toàn xã hội. Trở thành một phần không thể thiếu trong cuộc sống của số đông người. Vậy tại sao Internet lại trở nên phổ biến và thông dụng như vậy? Và Interner có những lợi ích và hạn chế gì? Đầu tiên, ta cần biết được rằng Internet là một hệ thống thông tin toàn cầu có thể được truy nhập công cộng gồm các mạng máy tính được liên kết với nhau. Internet giúp ta rất nhiều việc trong cuộc sống như giúp chúng ta đọc báo, xem tin tức, xem phim, nghe nhạc trực tuyến, gửi và nhận thư, tìm kiếm các thông tin cần thiết, mua bán, học tập,… Về học tập thì Internet có rất nhiều tiện ích như giúp chúng ta tìm kiếm những thông tin liên quan đến bài học của chúng ta, giúp chúng ta học tập trực tuyến qua mạng và thậm chí là cả học và thi đại học qua Internet. Còn một vấn đề mà tôi khá thích thú khi sử dụng Internet đó là tôi có thể giữ liên lạc với bạn bè của tôi qua Internet cho dù họ có ở xa đến đâu, ngay cả ở nước ngoài, nhờ Internet mà tôi có thể giao lưu, học hỏi và trao đổi kiến thức về Tiếng Anh cũng như các môn học khác với bè bạn quốc tế. Tôi cũng là một người thường xuyên sử dụng Internet và cảm thấy nó khá là hữu ích. Tuy nhiên, Internet cũng có một vài hạn chế. Thông qua lỗ hổng của Internet mà Một số hacker đã viết những đoạn chương trình phá hoại mà ta thường gọi với tên virus, trojan, spyware,…và phát tán trên mạng, chỉ cần truy cập Internet thì những chương trình này sẽ xâm nhập vào máy tính của bạn. Có loại sẽ tự nhân bản làm cho tốn dung lượng ổ cứng nhưng có loại sẽ phá hủy hệ thống, làm hưcả hệ điều hành. Ngoài ra, việc sử dụng Internet quá nhiều gây ra một tình trạng, đó là chứng “Nghiện Internet”. Biểu hiện thường là quên thời gian, sao lãng ăn uống và ngủ; tức giận, căng thẳng, bồn chồn khi không thể lên mạng; biểu hiện trầm cảm, hay cáu giận và tách biệt với xã hội. Ngoài ra, việc sử dụng quá nhiều Internet cũng làm cho chúng ta lãng phí thời gian, gây tiêu tốn tiền bạc. Thậm chí còn có người còn bị sốc, đột quị do sử dụng Internet quá lâu.
