Ngày ấy mẹ hay dắt hai chị em tôi xuống vườn, nơi có dòng suối khẽ trôi giữa hai ngọn đồi. Mỗi khi trời trở lạnh, sương giăng phủ những ngọn bắp, những chớm nở bông cà phê thơm nhẹ. Tôi vẫn hay theo mẹ xuống thăm mảnh ruộng nhỏ trên đồng, nhớ lắm những trưa hè nóng bức, gió thổi ngoài đồng từng cơn mát dịu. Tuổi thơ tôi đã gắn chặt với không gian nơi ấy, nơi bản làng trải dài những nhà sàn, những con người đôn hậu, nhìn xa xa ngoài hiên nhà, đập nước mênh mang.

Ngày ấy tôi cùng lũ bạn đi bắt đom đóm mỗi đêm hè về. Những ngày đầu cấp 2 lên thành phố học, một người nói tiếng phổ thông còn chưa rành rọt, tôi vẫn nhớ cái giọng lơ lớ pha chút tiếng bản ngữ của mình khi nói tiếng Việt, nhưng sao thấy lứa bạn nó hứng thú với giọng đó lắm, nó cứ bắt mình đọc đoạn văn này đoạn văn nọ, giờ sao nói được như thế kia để thấy con người luôn hồn nhiên!
