dân tộc chứt là một dân tộc ít người sinh sống tại việt nam. Tại vn thì dân tộc chứt cũng được công nhận là một trong 54 dân tộc .dân tộc này có dân số khoảng 6.022 người sống chủ yếu ở tại Minh Hóa, Tuyên Hóa, Bố Trạch (Quảng Bình); một số ở Hương Khê (Hà Tĩnh) và tại Đăk Lăk. Người Chứt là tộc người sử dụng ngôn ngữ cùng ngữ hệ với tiếng Việt.Tiếng Chứt được nhiều nhà ngôn ngữ học quan tâm vì gần gũi với tiếng Kinh nguyên thủ. Người Chứt sống bằng nông nghiệp nương rẫy du canh và săn bắn hái lượm. Các giống cây trồng chính là ngô, sắn, đỗ, lúa. Chăn nuôi trâu, bò phục vụ cày bừa, làm sức kéo. Ðan lát chủ yếu do nhu cầu tiêu dùng trong gia đình. Ðôi nơi họ biết thêm nghề rèn dao, rìu. Người Chứt thích dùng đàn, sáo, hát các giai điệu khác nhau. Họ có nhiều truyện cổ tích, thần thoại, đặc biệt truyện kể về sự khai thiên lập địa và sinh ra con người.
