Chính phủ Hy Lạp cần phải cải cách chính sách kinh tế như là cắt giảm chi tiêu công, tăng thuế, tăng thuế bởi doanh thu, giảm tỷ lệ thất nghiệp, tăng tuổi hưu trí, giảm tiền hưu trí và tạo dựng lòng tin để thu hút đầu tư nước ngoài. Chính phủ Hy Lạp nên đàn áp thẳng tay đối với những người kinh doanh né tránh thuế. Hiện nay Hy Lạp đang có những thành công trong việc thực hiện biện pháp thắt chặt chi tiêu để giảm ngân sách. Giữa năm 2010, thâm hụt ngân sách so với GDP là 4,9 %, thấp hơn đáng kể so với mục tiêu mà IMF đề ra cho Hy Lạp. Cùng với sự nỗ lực của Hy Lạp, sự giúp đỡ của quốc tế cũng hết sức cần thiết và có tác dụng tích cực đối với Hy Lạp.
