Bê tông nhựa được sử dụng rộng rãi trên thế giới cũng như ở Việt Nam trong xây dựng mặt đường ô tô cấp cao, mặt đường cao tốc.
Bê tông nhựa (BTN) là hỗn hợp bao gồm các cốt liệu (đá dăm, cát, bột khoáng) có tỷ lệ phối trộn xác định, được sấy nóng và trộn đều với nhau, sau đó được trộn với nhựa đường theo tỷ lệ xác định thông qua thiết kế. Hỗn hợp BTN nóng được chế tạo tại trạm trộn, được vận chuyển ra hiện trường, san và lu lèn ở nhiệt độ quy định nhằm đạt được độ chặt yêu cầu. Chất lượng BTN phụ thuộc vào nhiều yếu tố, nhiều công đoạn, và chỉ cần vi phạm bất kỳ một công đoạn nào thì chất lượng BTN cũng bị ảnh hưởng.
