Huyện Văn Giang nằm giáp thủ đô Hà Nội, có vị trí địa lý thuận lợi cho việc giao lưu phát triển kinh tế - xã hội, nằm trong vùng trọng điểm phát triển kinh tế đồng bằng Bắc Bộ, có hệ thống giao thông phát triển và sự phát triển của các đô thị dịch vụ thương mại. Là huyện nằm trong vùng đồng bằng sông Hồng, có đất phù sa màu mỡ rất phù hợp cho phát triến sản xuất nông nghiệp với hệ thống cây trồng đa dạng và các mô hình sản xuất nông nghiệp hàng hóa tập trung theo mô hình trang trại. Cơ cấu kinh tế của huyện có sự chuyến biến mạnh, tỉ trọng công nghiệp, xây dựng trong cơ cấu kinh tế tăng nhanh. Hệ thống cơ sở hạ tầng được trú trọng đầu tư, nâng cấp và dần hoàn thiện tạo điều kiện cho kinh tế phát triển.
Trong những năm qua công tác quản lý đất đai trên địa bàn huyện được quan tâm chú trọng. Công tác lập quy hoạch, kế hoạch sử dụng đất được triển khai và đạt kết quả tốt. Công tác đăng ký đất đai, thống kê đất đai, cấp giấy chứng nhận quyền sử dụng đất được quan tâm chú trọng, đến nay UBND huyện đã cấp giấy chứng nhận lần đầu cho 244 trường hợp, cấp đổi là là 1.497/5.030 GCN. Việc giải quyết các thủ tục chuyển đổi, chuyển nhượng, cho thuê, thu hồi đất… được thực hiện theo đúng quy định của pháp luật, UBND huyện đã phê duyệt phương án bồi thường, hỗ trợ khi Nhà nước thu hồi đất thực hiện các dự án: Dự án Trung tâm thương mại và dịch vụ Văn Giang tại xã Long Hưng, dự án xây dựng, củng cố, nâng cấp đê tả sông Hồng tại các xã: Xuân Quan, Phụng Công, TT Văn Giang v..v. Công tác thanh tra, kiểm tra việc chấp hành pháp luật trong quản lý sử dụng đất đai, giải quyết tranh chấp, khiếu nại, tố cáo được tiến hành thường xuyên, dứt điểm góp phần làm ổn định tình hình an ninh nông thôn trên địa bàn huyện.
Trong giai đoạn 2011 - 2015, UBND huyện Văn Giang đã giao đất cho hộ gia, đình cá nhân với 3.556 trường hợp Công tác giao đất, cho thuê đất đã đáp ứng tốt nhu cầu sử dụng đất cho đối tượng là hộ gia đình, cá nhân đồng thời làm tăng thu cho ngân sách địa phương, hạn chế được tình trạng sử dụng đất kém hiệu quả, lãng phí. Tuy nhiên, công tác này còn gặp một số khó khăn về thời gian hỗ trợ tiền thuê nhà cho các hộ dân tái định cư; số tiền bồi thường, hỗ trợ không đủ để trả tiền sử dụng đất và làm nhà tại các nơi tái định cư; tình trạng người dân chưa đưa đất vào sử dụng còn khá cao (40% đối với đất giao theo hình thức tái định cư và 56,67% được giao theo hình thức đất ở kết hợp với đất sản xuất kinh doanh). Trong giai đoạn 2011 - 2015, có 71 tổ chức được giao, cho thuê đất tại huyện Văn Giang với diện tích 112,53 ha. Việc cho thuê đất được thực hiện tại 11/11 đơn vị hành chính cấp xã. Xã Long Hưng và thị trấn Văn Giang có số tổ chức và diện tích được thuê lớn nhất vì đây là những đơn vị hành chính có thế mạnh về phát triển công nghiệp tập trung.
