Năm 2015, thị trường thép trong nước có nhiều biến động và chịu nhiều ảnh hưởng cùng với xu hướng giảm giá nguyên liệu thế giới (phôi thép, thép phế). Do đó, từ tháng 01/2015 các nhà máy liên tục điều chỉnh giảm giá thép xây dựng. Tính chung năm 2015, tổng mức giảm giá khoảng 900 - 2.800 đồng/tấn tùy từng loại.

Tháng 2/2015, một số doanh nghiệp tiếp tục điều chỉnh giảm giá bán thép như: Công ty CP Gang thép Thái Nguyên điều chỉnh giảm 350 đồng/kg tùy từng loại; Công ty TNHH thép Vina Kyoei điều chỉnh giảm 800 đồng/kg tùy từng loại (ngoài ra một số nhà sản xuất không điều chỉnh giá bán mà điều chỉnh tăng hoặc giảm chiết khấu bán hàng).

Từ tháng 9, các doanh nghiệp sản xuất kinh doanh thép liên tục giảm giá hoặc tăng chiết khấu bán hàng do giá nguyên liệu thế giới giảm và nhu cầu tiêu thụ cũng thấp. Tính từ đầu năm đến nay, tổng mức giảm giá khoảng 900 - 2.800 đồng/tấn tùy từng loại.

Cuối tháng 12, giá thép xây dựng bán lẻ trên thị trường tiếp tục giảm còn khoảng 10,72-10,83 triệu đồng/tấn (tùy thương hiệu), giảm 35,5% so với đầu năm.

Giá thép giảm mạnh là do giá nguyên liệu giảm, nhu cầu tiêu thụ thép yếu trong khi nguồn cung tăng mạnh từ các nhà máy thép cũng như nguồn thép nhập khẩu đang tăng ồ ạt. Mặt khác, một số doanh nghiệp sản xuất thép cắt giảm chiết khấu khiến các đại lý phải hạ giá bán lẻ với hy vọng tiêu thụ được nhiều hàng hơn.

Các nhà máy lớn cũng cắt giảm giá bán ra. Tại miền Bắc, giá bán thép tròn đốt và thép cuộn Ф6 tại nhà máy Gang Thép Thái Nguyên (chưa trừ chiết khấu, chưa có VAT), giảm xuống còn 10,55 triệu đồng/tấn vào cuối năm, giảm 15,8% so với đầu năm. Tại miền Nam, giá bán thép tròn đốt tại nhà máy thép Vinakyoei (chưa trừ chiết khấu, chưa có VAT), giảm xuống còn 11,18 triệu đồng/tấn vào cuối năm, giảm 17% so với đầu năm. Giá thép cuộn Ф6 tại nhà máy này giảm 19,2% còn 11,17 triệu đồng/tấn.
