Trong vòng 2 năm qua, thể loại âm nhạc điện tử (electronic dance music – EDM) đã dần dần chiếm được cảm tình của phần lớn khán giả trẻ Việt Nam và những những người làm nhạc, nhạc sĩ, producer hay DJ đều có xu hướng phối lại những bản nhạc cũ mang hơi hướng EDM để tạo sự khác biệt và mới lạ. Ngoài ra thì còn có chương trình truyền hình thực tế tại Việt Nam đang đi theo xu hướng mix lại hay phối lại những bản nhạc đang “hot” ở thị trường thành bản nhạc version EDM mới hoàn toàn – chương trình The Remix,...

EDM có rất nhiều thể loại sau hơn 30 năm tồn tại và ngày càng có nhiều thể loại mới được sinh ra. Từ Hardstyle dồn dập mạnh mẽ đến Dubstep cổ quái, Trance bay bổng, Electro nhẹ nhàng… Ngoài ra còn có rất nhiều thể loại được phân nhánh từ những nhánh lớn đó. Các nhánh nhỏ này được phát triển bằng nhiều cách, có thể mix chúng với nhau hoặc chỉ chơi một số loại nhạc cụ, beat nhất định nhằm định hình phong cách dựa trên nền là các thể loại lớn trên. Ví dụ điển hình nhất là với House, rất nhiều subgenre được sinh ra từ House như Big Room, Progressive, Deep, và mới đây nhất là Tropical House.

Tropical House còn được gọi là Trop House, là một nhánh của dòng Deep House nhưng được làm mới lại với giai điệu và tiết tấu nhẹ nhàng, tempo đa phần rơi vào khoảng từ 100 – 120 bpm.

Chất nhạc tạo cho người nghe cảm thấy thoải mái và hòa hợp với thiên nhiên, khi nghe một bản Trop House ta luôn cảm thấy thư giãn và vui tươi. Dòng nhạc này rất thích hợp để xả stress cho những người thường xuyên bận rộn với công việc. Công cụ chính để tạo ra một bản Trop bao gồm: piano, guitare, saxophone, trumpet và đặc biệt nhất là không thể thiếu bộ gõ (percussions).

Trop House xuất hiện từ khoảng những năm đầu 90 của thế kỉ 20, và DJ/Producer người Úc Thomas Jack_ người tiên phong trong thể loại này, anh đã lấy tên Tropical House cho thể loại này từ một câu chuyện đùa của mình tại Hawaii.

Tropical House đã dần dần được anh phổ biến tới người nghe Úc, và sau đó đã lan truyền ra khắp thế giới. Hiện nay, một số nghệ sĩ EDM nổi tiếng ở dòng này như: Bobby Brush, Felix Jaehn…Đặc biệt không thể không nhắc đến cái tên Kygo – một DJ/Producer đã nâng tầm dòng nhạc này với những giai điệu bay bổng của mình đến tấm cao trong thị trường EDM thế giới.

Những bản hit remix của Kygo mang đậm phong cách Tropical House cố điển như: “Firestone”, “I see fire” và gần đây nhất “Stole The Show” đã gây ấn tượng mạnh với âm nhạc điện tử quốc tế. Theo dự đoán của các chuyên gia âm nhạc thế giới 2016 Trop House sẽ là dòng nhạc phủ đầu xu hướng EDM.
