I'm from Winnipeg, and grew up there during the 1960 's/70 's. We first lived on Valour Road in the West End, and by 1969 moved to the new district of Westwood in St. James. I have many fond family memories ... visiting the cities many parks, camping at Falcon Lake and Grand Beach during the summer, Folklorama, driving out to Lockport for hotdogs at Skinners and the Half-Moon, walking to school through snow drifts in the winter, and along 5 feet high snow banks. Mom, Dad, my little sister and I moved to Calgary in 1977, which I call home today. I've only been back to Winnipeg a handful of times the last 40 years. Most recently in 2003 for my Grandparents 70th wedding anniversary. Before that, it was way back in 1983. Sadly, my sister passed away a few months ago, which hit the family very hard. It was always the four of us, very close-knit. Now a huge part of our lives is gone forever. Today I have an urge to go back to Winnipeg, visit those places, and re-capture some of the memories that I shared with my younger sister and parents. Thankfully my Dad is a camera buff, and took many family photos, home movies, and slides in and around Winnipeg. I need to live some of those Winnipeg experiences again. I'm so proud that I grew up in Winnipeg. I will make a point of returning. My wife and daughter have never been ... might see you this summer in Winnipeg!
