 Gần đây năm 2014, Hoàng Thị Mỹ Hạnh với Đề tài “Mô hình lan truyền dầu trên sông do sự cố tràn dầu tại các trạm cấp phát nhiên liệu dọc bờ sông sài gòn thuộc tỉnh Bình Dương”. Kết quả đề tài đã nghiên cứu và khảo sát các trạm cấp phát nhiên liệu trên đoạn sông sài gòn thuộc địa bàn tỉnh Bình Dương từ đó mô phỏng, dự báo quá trình lan truyền dầu cho một điểm cụ thể tại Cảng An Sơn, giúp các cơ quan quản lý chủ động phương án ứng cứu sự cố tràn dầu khi xảy ra sự cố tại Cảng An Sơn.
