Hơn 18 năm sống chung với tinh trạng không có điện cùng gia đình tại ngôi làng nhỏ Ndela, nằm cách 80 km về phía Đông của thủ đô Nairobi, Kenya, Wambua dường như chưa có lúc nào thôi ngừng nghĩ về một ngày nào đó em có thể học dưới ánh sáng của đèn điện.

M-Kopa hiện đang sử dụng công nghệ để tạo ra các tấm pin năng lượng mặt trời giá rẻ tại quốc gia mà cứ 2 trong 3 người lại không thể tiếp cận được với mạng lưới điện quốc gia. Cho đến nay đã có khoảng 230.000 người đã đăng ký mua sản phẩm của công ty.
Khách hàng sẽ được công ty lắp đặt sau khi đồng ý mua pin năng lượng mặt trời. Họ cần chuyển tiền vào tài khoản của công ty thông qua một dịch vụ chuyển tiền điện thoại di động. Nếu như không thanh toán, các tấm pin năng lượng mặt trời mà người dùng mua về có thể sẽ bị khóa và ngừng hoạt động thông qua thẻ SIM.
