Nước ta có lợi thế và tiềm năng về nguồn nhân lực rất lớn, cùng với đó là các thành tựu vượt bậc về giáo dục, tuy nhiên một thực tế khá buồn hiện nay đó là tỉ lệ sinh viên thất nghiệp sau khi ra trường ngày càng cao. Thậm chí, có một số trường hợp sinh viên ra trường cả hai, ba năm vẫn không tìm được việc làm, chứ đừng nói đến chuyện tìm được công việc đúng ngành nghề.
Những năm trước đây, tỷ lệ lao động qua học nghề, nhất là đào tạo nghề chính quy còn thấp dẫn đến chất lượng lao động không đảm bảo, không đáp ứng được yêu cầu công việc. Trong những năm gần đây, mặc dù tình trạng học vấn của lao động không ngừng được cải thiện, hệ thống văn bằng được nâng cao và mở rộng nhưng tình trạng thất nghiệp vẫn tiếp tục gia tăng. Lượng sinh viên tốt nghiệp từ các trường đại học,cao đẳng chính quy trong cả nước không có việc làm ngày càng nhiều, một bộ phận sau khi tốt nghiệp đại học trở đảm nhận các công việc không cần bằng cấp, hiện tượng sinh viên sau khi tốt nghiệp làm công nhân, hoặc làm các công việc không cần đến trình độ đại học đang dần không còn xa lạ. Vậy nguyên nhân nào đã dẫn đến tình trạng này?

Thứ nhất, số lượng sinh viên đầu ra mỗi năm quá nhiều. Hiện tại, Việt Nam có hơn 500 trường đại học, cao đẳng trong cả nước. Việc mở cửa ồ ạt các trường đại học với chất lượng đầu vào thấp là nguyên nhân dẫn đến tình trạng sinh viên tốt nghiệp mỗi năm tăng vọt.

Thứ hai, nguyên nhân xuất phát từ chính nguồn nhân lực được đào tạo nhưng không đáp ứng được yêu cầu công việc. Sinh viên sau khi tốt nghiệp không đủ năng lực, trình độ đảm nhận các vị trí trong doanh nghiệp, khiến các nhà tuyển dụng từ chối hoặc phải đào tạo lại. Sinh viên không đủ năng lực nhưng mong muốn tìm đến những công việc “việc nhẹ lương cao”.
Nhiều doanh nghiệp lớn cho biết: “Kỹ năng của sinh viên mới ra trường là chưa hình thành nếu không muốn nói là không có.”
Quả thật, sinh viên ra trường hiện nay có kiến thức nhưng thiếu kỹ năng, đặc biệt là các kỹ năng cần thiết để làm việc. Một số bạn trẻ còn cho rằng, các nhà tuyển dụng chỉ cần tuyển người có năng lực chuyên môn, vi tính thành thạo, ngoại ngữ bằng A, B, C… Chính vì thế, các bạn đổ xô rủ nhau đi học bằng này bằng kia, khoá học này khoá học kia, nhưng các bạn không hề biết rằng, các chủ doanh nghiệp và công ty, nhất là các công ty nước ngoài luôn chú trọng đến các kỹ năng làm việc, kỹ năng giao tiếp, ứng xử, kỹ năng làm việc theo nhóm, khả năng lập kế hoạch mục tiêu, xử lý nhanh những khó khăn trong tình huống bất ngờ…
Thứ ba, thực tế vấn đề việc làm ở Việt Nam cũng đang gặp khó khăn. Trong bối cảnh nền kinh tế khủng hoảng, nhiều doanh nghiệp phải cắt giảm lao động như các công ty chứng khoán, công ty xây dựng…, một số doanh nghiệp giải thể, đóng cửa đã làm mất việc của hàng ngàn lao động.

Suy cho cùng, bản thân mỗi chúng ta cần phải nổ lực hơn nữa, phấn đấu hơn nữa trong học tập và rèn luyện chứ không nên đổ lỗi tại nhà trường và xã hội.
