Điện áp tiêu chuẩn là 750V DC, sử dụng hệ thống ray cấp điện để cấp điện.
Quy định trong tiêu chuẩn EN 50163 như sau:
- Điện áp nhỏ nhất ổn định là 500V DC
- Điện áp lớn nhất ổn định là 900V DC
- Điện áp lớn nhất không ổn định là 1000V DC
1. Hệ thống góp điện
Hệ thống góp điện thông qua kiểm chứng ứng dụng thực tế. Mỗi đoàn tàu ít nhất có 2 hệ thống góp điện.
Để tránh bị ngắn mạch trong khu đường ray cấp điện, giữa các hệ thống cấp điện phải cách điện với nhau.
Vị trí của hệ thống góp điện phải tránh việc khi dịch chuyển từ khu này sang khu khác bị mất cấp điện 750V DC, ngoài ra, còn phải tránh cầu ngăn cách khu ray cấp điện (nếu có).
Hệ thống gốp điện mà hệ thống cần, gồm:
-Yêu cầu cấp điện của tàu

Giữ hệ thống góp điện và các thiết bị khác phải có đủ khoảng cách cách xa nhau, ít nhất là 70mm.
- Phạm vi điện áp
- Động lực (đơn nguyên tàu có thể vận hành bình thường trong trường hợp chỉ có 1 hệ thống góp điện làm việc).
- Tương thích với loại hình và đặc tính của hệ thống ray cấp điện.
- Kích thước hình học của ray cấp điện (vị trí theo hướng vuông góc và hướng ngang)
- Mài mòn
- Áp suất tiếp xúc (gồm tính ổn định tiêp xúc trong điều kiện đường ray và đông lực của tàu/ mạng lưới tiếp xúc).
