Kể từ khi Việt Nam chính thức trở thành thành viên của ASEAN, kim ngạch
trao đổi thương mại giữa Việt Nam với các nước ASEAN đã tăng lên nhanh chóng,
đóng góp đáng kể vào sự phát triển kinh tế của Việt Nam cũng như các nước thành
viên của Hiệp hội.
Theo số liệu thống kê của Tổng cục hải quan, tổng giá trị trao đổi hàng hóa
giữa Việt Nam và các nước ASEAN trong hai quý đầu năm 2010 tăng 23,9% so với
cùng kỳ năm trước và chiếm 18% tổng kim ngạch xuất nhập khẩu của cả nước.
Trong số các nước ASEAN, Singapore luôn là đối tác lớn nhất với tổng trị giá trao
đổi giữa hai nước là 3,25 tỷ USD. Tiếp theo là Thái Lan: 3,12 tỷ USD và Malaysia:
2,43 tỷ USD.
