Trên cơ sở định hướng của Đảng và Nhà nước, căn cứ nghị quyết đại hội đại biểu Đảng bộ lần thứ 15, đề án xây dựng Trường ĐH Sư Phạm Kỹ Thuật giai đoạn 2013-2018 với khẩu hiệu: “Phát triển toàn diện, bền vững và hội nhập quốc tế” với mục tiêu: “Đến năm 2018, Trường trở thành Trường dẫn đầu theo hướng ứng dụng nghề nghiệp đồng thời cũng là một trung tâm đào tạo, bồi dưỡng và nghiên cứu khoa học có uy tín, ngang tầm với các trường đại học lớn trong nước, tiếp cận, hòa nhập với các trường đại học trong khu vực và thế giới.Trường cung cấp cho người học môi trường giáo dục đại học và nghiên cứu khoa học tốt nhất, có tính chuyên nghiệp cao, đảm bảo cho người học sau khi tốt nghiệp có đủ năng lực cạnh tranh và thích ứng với nền giáo dục phát triển”.
Cho đến ngày nay, CNC không còn là một lĩnh vực mới mẻ đối với ngành Công nghệ chế tạo máy ở Việt Nam. Máy CNC đã xuất hiện ở hầu hết các doanh nghiệp và các xưởng gia công cơ khí, nó không chỉ được dùng ở lĩnh vực gia công chính xác mà còn được dùng ở được dùng ở nhiều công việc và nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau. Công nghệ CNC góp phần không nhỏ trong công cuộc công nghiệp hóa, hiện đại hóa đất nước. Mặt khác công nghệ vận hành không quá phức tạp, sử dụng được lao động không đòi hỏi trình độ kành nghề cao và có thể đi ngay vào sản xuất trong thời gian ngắn dưới hình thức chuyển giao công nghệ, gia công xuất khẩu được ưu tiên hàng đầu.
Do tính ứng dụng cao trong thực tế nên môn học Cad/Cam_CNC được đưa vào một trong những môn giảng dạy chính trong ngành cơ khí chế tạo của đại học Sư Phạm Kỹ Thuật Tp.Hồ Chí Minh. Với ngành cơ khí chế tạo máy nói riêng và các ngành trong lĩnh vực cơ khí nói chung, Cad/Cam/CNC là một trong những môn học rất quan trọng vì tính ứng dụng cao của nó. Một trong những phần mềm giúp cho sinh viên có kiến thức khởi quan về lĩnh vực Cad/Cam/CNC là phần mềm Fanuc 21, một phần mềm được dùng trong các trường Đại học, cao đẳng và đặc biệt là trường Sư phạm Kỹ thuật TP. Hồ Chí Minh. Việc nghiên cứu và làm quen với phần mềm Fanuc 21 là một yêu cầu bắt buộc với sinh viên ngành cơ khí chế tạo máy.
Nhằm hoàn thiện tài liệu giảng dạy môn học, với chủ đích giúp cho các bạn sinh viên có cái nhìn tổng quan, phát triển kỹ năng trong lập trình gia công CNC cũng như có thể tiếp cận công nghệ Cad/Cam_CNC được dễ dàng và hiệu quả nhất, tài liệu này sẽ tập trung vào các nội dung sau : Khái quát và hướng dẫn sử dụng phần mềm mô phỏng gia công Cad/Cam_CNC EMCO WINNC GE FANUC SERIES. Phần 2 trình bày chi tiết các bước gia công một chi tiết với phần mềm EMCO WINNC GE FANUC SERIES hướng dẫn sinh viên ứng dụng thông qua các bài tập thực hành.
