Bởi lẽ rằng, khói thuốc là chứa hơn 4800 chất hóa học, 69 trong số đó được biết là gây ra ung thư. Vì thế, khi các điều luật cấm hút thuốc được ban hành sẽ đồng nghĩa với việc chúng ta sẽ loại bỏ được một mối đe dọa sức khỏe cộng đồng.
