Dịch vụ khám chữa bệnh là hàng hóa thiết yếu, ít co giãn với thu nhập. Đối với người già thì nhu cầu chăm sóc sức khoẻ càng nhiều hơn nên dù có lương hưu hay không người già vẫn phải đi khám chữa bệnh. Do đó ảnh hưởng của lương hưu lên việc khám chữa bệnh của người cao tuổi là không rõ rệt lắm
