Người dân Singapore có tinh thần tự giác và tuân thủ luật pháp cao. Hầu như không bao giờ có người vứt rác thải, tàn thuốc hoặc kẹo cao su ra đường. Không có ai sang đường khi đèn báo đường dành cho người đi bộ đang đỏ, dù trên đường không hề có phương tiện giao thông nào qua lại. Điều này không chỉ do luật pháp Singapore rất nghiêm khắc, người vi phạm có thể bị phạt rất nặng mà còn do tinh thần tự giác và ý thức cá nhân của mỗi người dân ở đây.
