Giáng sinh là một ngày lễ quốc tế ở hầu hết các nước trên thế giới trong đó có VietNam . Có rất nhiều cách để người dân ăn mừng giáng sinh như là tặng quà cho nhau , trang trí cây thông , nghe nhạc giáng sinh , mặc trang phục màu đỏ, vòng hoa ... . Theo truyền thuyết dịp lễ này có liên quan đến ông già noel hay còn gọi là Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas hay Christkind . Vào nửa đêm ngày giáng sinh ông già noel sẽ mặc bộ đồ màu đỏ và đi phát quà cho những đứa trẻ ngoan, còn những đứa trẻ sẽ chuẩn bị một cái bánh quy và một ly sữa nóng cho ông ta. Giáng sinh còn được coi là ngày đầu năm mới theo người thiên chúa giáo. Vì là ngày lễ quốc tế nên ngày giáng sinh liên quan đến các hoạt động thương mại. Trước giáng sinh một tuần mọi người thường đi mua sắm đồ đạc và trang trí nhà cửa của mình . Vào buổi tối đêm giáng sinh mọi người trong gia đình , đặc biệt là các nước theo đạo thiên chúa giáo sẽ ăn tối cùng nhau và hát bài hát chúc mừng giáng sinh.
