Đối với ta, tuy giành được nhiều thắng lợi, thế và lực của cách mạng đã có bước phát triển mới, nhưng chưa làm chuyển biến cục diện chiến tranh có lợi cho cách mạng. Từ thực tế trên chiến trường, kết hợp với tình hình trong nước và quốc tế, cuối năm 1967, Đảng, Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh và Quân đội ta đã nắm lấy cơ hội này, quyết định chuyển cuộc chiến tranh cách mạng miền Nam sang thời kỳ mới.
