Năm 1986 huyện Yên Sơn có trồng giống chè PH1 tại 02 đội 23-QT và 17- KP thuộc Công ty chè Mỹ Lâm ( nay là Công ty cổ phần chè Mỹ Lâm), năng suất đạt 20 tấn /ha. Nó có đặc điểm là búp to, non lâu. Năng suất hiện nay là 20,3 tấn /ha, Có vườn đạt 25 tấn/ha. Khả năng chống chịu bệnh khá nhất là đối với rầy xanh, tỷ lệ sơ gỗ ít. Về chất lượng chè được đánh giá ở mức trung bình khá.
