Obon – Lễ Vu Lan của người Nhật Bản
Lễ hội Obon của người Nhật Bản có đến 3 mốc thời gian tổ chức tùy theo địa phương:
o Bon tháng bảy (Shichigatsu Bon): 15 – 7 dương lịch
o Bon cũ (Kyu Bon): 15 – 7 âm lịch
o Bon tháng tám (Hatchigatsu Bon): 15 – 8 dương lịch
Trong đó, Hatchigatsu Bon là lễ hội lớn nhất được tổ chức tại Kyoto và thu hút lượng lớn người dân và khách du lịch tham gia.
Trước ngày tổ chức lễ hội, tức khoảng ngày 13, người dân sẽ treo những chiếc lồng đèn trước cửa nhà và cả những con đường dẫn vào nhà để chào đón và dẫn lối cho các linh hồn đã khuất về thăm nhà cũ.
