- Kỹ năng cứng là những kỹ năn

- Kỹ năng cứng là những kỹ năng có được do đào tạo tại trường và tự học, bao gòm: trí tuệ, tính logic, khoa học... đây là loại kỹ năng có tính nền tảng.
- Kỹ năng mềm là những kỹ năng có được từ hoạt động thực tế cuộc sống hoặc hoạt động nghề nghiệp, gồm kỹ năng giao tiếp, hòa đồng với tập thể, kỹ năng thu hút mọi người, kỹ năng đàm phán, khả năng ứng xử... đây là loại kỹ năng rất phong phú và không kém phần quan trọng so với kỹ năng cứng.
Người lao động khi tham gia vào bất kỳ hoạt động nghề nghiệp nào đều phải đáp ứng những kỹ năng mà hoạt động nghề nghiệp đó đòi hỏi, nếu không họ sẽ không thể tồn tại được trong môi trường làm việc đó.
