Về mặt chất lượng POM không có đối thủ cạnh tranh trực tiếp. Các đối thủ cạnh tranh chính của công ty là những nhà máy sản xuất thép trong nước, tuy nhiên một nửa số đó bị phụ thuộc vào nguồn phôi thép nhập khẩu với máy móc thiết bị lỗi thời.

Công ty hiện là một trong số ít những doanh nghiệp trong ngành có khả năng tự chủ (một phần) nguyên liệu đầu vào, khoảng 45% nhu cầu. Từ năm 2012 khi nhà máy Pomina 3 đi vào hoạt động, khả năng tự chủ nguyên liệu đầu vào của POM sẽ tăng lên khoảng 90%
