Việc tiến hành du lịch bền vững ở Phu Quoc đang có một số những thuận lợi về mặt tự nhiên như còn rất nhiều các cảnh quang thiên nhiên mà con người có thể khai thác, sử dụng. Về mặt con người, quá trình xây dựng du lịch bền vững đã giải quyết được một vấn đề to lớn về việc làm cho người dân tại địa phương, giúp họ có thên thu nhập để trang trãi cuộc sống, hay một tác động tích cực to lớn đó là đang dần nâng tầm dịch vụ du lịch Viet Nam lên ngang tầm quốc tế, thu hút được nhiều du khách nước ngoài hơn, tăng nguồn thu cho địa phương và các doanh nghiệp. Tuy nhiên, vẫn còn một số khó khăn lớn mà Phu Quoc đang đối mặt. Đầu tiên là về ý thức của người dân quanh các khu du lịch, họ chưa có được tinh thần tự giác tròn việc bảo vệ các cảnh quang thiên nhiên, cũng như môi trường, hay các ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng từ thiên tai như bão, lũ,... chính những yếu tố này đã gây một phần bất lợi khá lớn trong việc hoàn thiện quy trình du lịch bền vững.
