Martian landscape looks like a desert in the USA
A panoramic view from the surface of Mars shows the mound plateau and brown and bronze, reminiscent of the desert in the Southwest United States.
Declaration NASA said the spacecraft Curiosity Rover autonomous panoramic photograph was taken on April 5/8 - 4 year anniversary of landing on Mars. This perspective includes more than 130 photographs taken by the camera of the Mast Camera ship.
Flat area in front of the photograph is Murray formations, while the group of mounds in a little further forward is officially named Murray Buttes. The area is named after the scientist who studies planets Bruce Murray, he is a former director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Jet Propulsion Laboratory - JPL) of NASA, he died in 2013. JPL is managing unit of the Curiosity mission.
the mound was eroded sandstone forming on the slope of Mount Sharp low flame (bump in further towards the left of this picture is the high slopes of Mount Sharp tops). Currently, this sandstone sandstone layer is covered in a layer of ice making them pretty well preserved. Earlier this year, Curiosity has studied more soft sandstone layers, called Stimson formations. Murray flat formations were formed from "the sediment of the lake".
To be able to sense the rate of this photo, the width of the plateau is located on the left side of the robot arm curiosity is about 90m from the robot. By high peaks of about 15m, while the horizontal ridge running horizontally above a length of about 60 meters.
The objective of the mission's main expedition ship $ 2.5 billion Curiosity is studying surface Mars and search for signs that it could ever fit life. In its extended mission, self-propelled ro- boots are seeking clues to explain how part of the flame low slopes of Mount Sharp, which evolve from an environment (can) have a lot of water to the its status as now in the harsh conditions of Mars. Recently, NASA has decided to extend the implementation of the Curiosity mission at least until December 10/2018
