Vị trí: Cát Tiên là tên gọi một vùng đất nằm gọn trong đoạn uốn khúc của sông Ðồng Nai, thuộc địa phận của ba tỉnh Ðồng Nai, Bình Phước và Lâm Ðồng.
Đặc điểm: Tục truyền, nơi đây có nàng tiên thường xuống hạ giới để vui đùa và tận hưởng dòng nước trong mát, nên được gọi là “Nam Cát Tiên”. Ðây là công trình khảo cổ có giá trị văn hoá, lịch sử và tín ngưỡng lớn để có thể xác định được sự tồn tại, nguồn gốc của một vương quốc đã bị lãng quên hơn 1.300 năm.
Vườn Quốc gia Cát Tiên có  tổng diện tích là 70.548ha, trong đó phần diện tích thuộc Đồng Nai: 39.108ha; phần diện tích thuộc tỉnh Lâm Đồng: 26.969ha; phần diện tích thuộc tỉnh Bình Phước: 4.469ha. Trụ sở Vườn Quốc gia Cát Tiên đặt tại huyện Tân Phú, Ðồng Nai.
Khu vườn có cảnh thiên nhiên đa dạng: vừa có đồi, vừa có bãi ven sông, vừa có các trảng rộng lớn bằng phẳng, lại có các dòng chảy dốc. Vào mùa mưa các dòng suối hiền lành trở thành các dòng thác, nước đổ trắng xoá trên các triền đá lớn. Nhiều đoạn thác quanh co, lượn khúc tạo ra những bãi cát vàng rộng như các bãi tắm tự nhiên.
Giữa dòng sông rộng lớn nổi lên các hòn đảo chạy dài theo con nước. Trên đảo, cây cổ thụ mọc xen với đám cỏ rộng có thể làm nơi cắm trại, đốt lửa đêm lý tưởng. Dọc ven sông, theo lộ chính về phía tay trái là toàn bộ các kiểu rừng già, hỗn giao của các loại cây gỗ quý: gõ, giáng hương, trắc, cẩm lai, gụ… Bên phải của con đường rừng là thác trời, một ghềnh thác kỳ thú nhất của Cát Tiên. Tiếp tục băng rừng, qua các thung lũng sâu sẽ đến Bàu Sấu, nơi chứa nước rộng nhất, nằm ở khu trung tâm của Vườn Quốc gia Cát Tiên. Lòng bàu chứa nhiều loại cá, đặc biệt có cả cá sấu nước ngọt. Ven bàu là nơi tập hợp của nhiều đàn chim lớn như công, trĩ, gà lôi, sếu, giang, mòng, két, le le, cù đen…
Cát Tiên không những có cảnh quan ngoạn mục, lại nằm trong khu vực chuyển tiếp của khí hậu miền núi và đồng bằng nên Cát Tiên có khí hậu độc đáo. Địa hình có sông suối bao bọc làm cho khu rừng già vừa được giữ nguyên vẹn, vừa trở thành nơi qui tụ hầu hết các kiểu rừng đồng bằng Nam Bộ. Ðây là khu rừng nguyên sinh tiêu biểu cho hệ sinh thái rừng ẩm nhiệt đới vùng thấp. Rừng có nhiều cây cổ thụ như bằng lăng, gỗ đỏ. Hệ thực vật có hơn 1.362 loài thực vật bậc cao, hơn 440 loài cây gỗ quý, hàng trăm loại cây dược liệu, 133 loài hoa phong lan…
Về động vật có 62 loài thú, 121 loài chim, có những loài chim quý hiếm như trĩ lông đỏ, cò quắm xanh, tê giác một sừng, voi…
Các nhà khảo cổ học đã tìm thấy một đền thờ vật linh thuộc nền văn hoá Phù Nam trên đỉnh ngọn đồi A1 (xã Quảng Ngãi, huyện Cát Tiên, tỉnh Lâm Ðồng) tại khu vực đầu nguồn sông Ðồng Nai. Ðó là khu đền thờ được xây bằng gạch thô, bệ, khung diềm cửa, cột trụ bằng đá xanh granit chạm trổ hoa văn, các Linga bằng vàng hoặc bằng vàng bịt bạc, một Linga – Yoni cao 2,1m, đường kính 0,7m bằng đá xanh mài bóng, lớn nhất Ðông Nam Á cùng hơn một trăm miếng vàng có chạm hình mô tả cảnh sinh hoạt thời đó: các vũ nữ, chiến binh, voi, bò, hoa sen…
Vườn Quốc gia Cát Tiên cách Tp. Hồ Chí Minh khoảng 150km theo quốc lộ 20. Cát Tiên là một điểm du lịch sinh thái và văn hoá hấp dẫn của vùng miền Ðông Nam Bộ với nhiều loại hình du lịch như đi bộ, quan sát chim thú, cắm trại, du thuyền, du lịch mạo hiểm… Vườn Quốc Gia Cát Tiên còn là một trong 6 khu dự trữ sinh quyển được UNESCO công nhận của Việt Nam
