The United States has many different kinds of families. While most of the traditional American family, including a father, a mother and one or more children, 22 percent of all American families in 1998 was headed by one parent, usually a woman. In a few families in the United States, do not have children. The couple had no children to believe that they will not make good parents; they may want to be free from the responsibility of childbearing; or, perhaps they are not physically able to have children. The other families in the United States with an adult is a stepparent. A stepmother or stepfather is a person join a family by marrying a father or a mother.
The Americans tolerate and accept different types of families. In the United States people have privacy and people Americans do not believe in saying what kind of Americans they must belong to the family group. They respect each other's choices concerning the family group. The family is very important for the American people.
