Từ những kiến thức được tiếp thu ở môn học này, tôi hiểu đây là một quá trình truyền đạt, chia sẽ thông tin; là một kiểu tương tác xã hội với sự tham gia của ít nhất 02 tác nhân. Lịch sử loài người cho thấy, con người có thể sống được với nhau, giao tiếp và tương tác lẫn nhau trước hết là nhờ vào hành vi truyền thông (thông qua ngôn ngữ hoặc cử chỉ, điệu bộ, hành vi… để chuyển tải những thông điệp, biểu lộ thái độ cảm xúc). Qua quá trình truyền thông liên tục, con người sẽ có sự gắn kết với nhau, đồng thời có những thay đổi trong nhận thức và hành vi. Chính vì vậy, truyền thông được xem là cơ sở để thiết lập các mối quan hệ giữa con người với con người, là nền tảng hình thành nên cộng đồng, xã hội. Nói cách khác, truyền thông là một trong những hoạt động căn bản của bất cứ tổ chức xã hội nào.
