Động cơ lao động bên ngoài: là điều kiện kích thích bên ngoài tạo nên cơ sở thúc đẩy động cơ bên trong phát triển. Động cơ bên ngoài của người lao động phụ thuộc chủ yếu vào tổ chức mà họ tham gia. Như vậy, có thể cho rằng sự hoạt động của tổ chức có thể củng cố và làm tăng cường động cơ làm việc của người lao động nhưng cũng có thể làm suy thoái động cơ làm việc đó của người lao động. Hoạt động của tổ chức tác động tới động cơ của người lao động trên các góc độ: Sự nhận thức và xác định của các nhà quản trị về động cơ của người lao động, sự nhận thức của người lao động về các chính sách của tổ chức, sự thực hiện các chức năng lãnh đạo và văn hoá tổ chức.
