Người tham gia được phép rút lui khỏi quá trình nghiên cứu tại bất cứ thời điểm nào. Trong một số trường hợp, người tham gia nghiên cứu được nhận thù lao hoặc những phần quà tặng trước khi họ trả lời nghiên cứu nhưng sau khi nhận khoản thù lao hoặc quà tặng này họ không đồng ý tham gia nữa. Trong trường hợp đó, nghiên cứu viên phải chấp nhận mất khoản tiền này và không bắt ép họ phải tiếp tục trả lời nghiên cứu
