Đề cập đến quá trình hình thành và phát triển của PVFCCo không thể không nhắc đến Dự án Nhà máy Đạm Phú Mỹ. Đây là dự án thuộc Công trình trọng điểm quốc gia “Cụm Khí – Điện – Đạm Phú Mỹ” tại tỉnh Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu. Mục tiêu của dự án là xây dựng nhà máy sản xuất phân đạm đầu tiên sử dụng nguyên liệu từ nguồn khí tài nguyên của đất nước. Có thể nói, đây là một trong các dự án thành công nhất của ngành Dầu khí nói riêng và của nước ta nói chung trong thời gian qua, thể hiện trên các mặt: chất lượng công trình đảm bảo theo tiêu chuẩn quốc tế, đáp ứng tiến độ, tiết kiệm chi phí đầu tư, vận hành an toàn, ổn định và đạt hiệu quả cao về kinh tế - xã hội. Sự thành công của dự án đã khẳng định quyết sách đầu tư Nhà máy Đạm Phú Mỹ của Đảng và Nhà nước là hoàn toàn đúng đắn, là minh chứng sống động của liên minh công – nông.

Quá trình xây dựng Nhà máy Đạm Phú Mỹ cũng như thực tiễn hoạt động của Tổng công ty Phân bón và Hóa chất Dầu khí trong thời gian qua đã đem lại những kinh nghiệm hết sức quý báu. Đó là kinh nghiệm đàm phán, lựa chọn công nghệ, lựa chọn nhà thầu; kinh nghiệm xử lý đa dạng các tình huống trong triển khai dự án; kinh nghiệm phối hợp và hợp tác giữa các bên liên quan; kinh nghiệm xây dựng, đào tạo đội ngũ nhân sự, hệ thống kinh doanh, mô hình quản trị và rất nhiều kinh nghiệm đáng quý khác nữa.

Bên cạnh đó, đội ngũ nhân lực trình độ cao, tác phong chuyên nghiệp của PVFCCo là bằng chứng về tài năng, trí tuệ của con người Việt Nam, yếu tố quan trọng nhất trong sự nghiệp xây dựng và phát triển đất nước.
