Hình thành Cộng đồng kinh tế ASEAN giúp thị trường lao động trong ASEAN sôi động hơn, thúc đẩy tạo việc làm cho từng quốc gia thành viên. Cũng theo dự báo của Tổ chức Lao động quốc tế (ILO), khi tham gia AEC, số việc làm của Việt Nam sẽ tăng lên 14,5% vào năm 2025. Tuy nhiên, do trình độ phát triển không đồng đều, nên hiện nay, lao động có tay nghề và kỹ năng cao trong khối ASEAN chủ yếu di chuyển vào thị trường Xin-ga-po, Ma-lai-xi-a và Thái Lan. Còn lại, hầu hết các lao động di chuyển trong phạm vi ASEAN là lao động trình độ kỹ năng thấp hoặc không có kỹ năng.
