Bảo vệ môi trường sống xanh – sạch – đẹp là vấn đề đang được cả thế giới quan tâm. Trong mấy năm gần đây, những thiên tai ghê gớm, khủng khiếp như động đất, sóng thần, cháy rừng, lũ lụt… xảy ra liên miên, chứng tỏ bà mẹ thiên nhiên đang nổi giận và trừng phạt loài người vì những hành vi cố tình xâm phạm và phá vỡ quy luật cân bằng sinh thái.
Vậy nguyên nhân của những sự việc trên là do đâu?

Đầu tiên, đó chính là sự thiếu ý thức nghiêm trọng của nhiều người dân mà đặc biệt là các bạn trẻ. Họ nghĩ rằng những việc mình làm là quá nhỏ bé, không đủ để làm hại môi trường.Hoặc cho rằng việc bảo vệ môi trường là trách nhiệm của nhà nước, của chính quyền mà không phải là của mình. Phá hoại môi trường của một người tuy chỉ ảnh hưởng nhỏ nhưng tập hợp nhiều người lại là lớn. Dù trách nhiệm bảo vệ môi trường tuy cũng có một phần là của nhà nước nhưng đa phần lại là của người dân. Những việc chúng ta làm đối với môi trường, tuy hiện giờ ta chưa thấy được, nhưng về lâu về dài nó sẽ ảnh hưởng tới ta ít nhiều.

Một nguyên nhân khác gây ra ô nhiễm môi trường chính là sự thiếu trách nhiệm của các doanh nghiệp. Họ đặt nặng mục tiêu tối đa hóa lợi nhuận, không ít doanh nghiệp đã vi phạm quy trình khai thác, góp phần đáng kể gây ô nhiễm môi trường. Một cách khác để giúp bảo vệ môi trường phát động thường xuyên hơn những phong trào tình nguyện như bảo vệ môi trường khu dân cư, dọn rác ở các khu vực công cộng, làm sạch bãi biển…
