2. Về mặt phương tiện so sánh- cấu trúc câu
Trong tiếng Anh có 2 dạng so sánh :

+) Dùng cấu trúc so sánh“as…as…”

Ví dụ: As cunning as a fox( Ranh mãnh như cáo).

+) Dùng từ so sánh “like”

Ví dụ: Eat like a horse (Ăn như mỏ khoét)

Like a frog in a well (Ếch ngồi đáy giếng)

+) Ngoài ra, còn có một dạng cấu trúc khác, đó là dạng câu trần thuật. Trong dạng câu này, không có sự xác định các từ so sánh như” as..as: hoặc “like”. Chúng có thể là câu khẳng định, câu phủ định để chỉ kinh nghiệm, quan điểm vễ cuộc sống hoặc đạo đức.

Ví dụ:

When candles are out, all cats are grey: tắt đèn nhà ngói cũng như nhà tranh
