Thực tế, tư duy quản trị tinh gọn đã được giới thiệu và áp dụng tại Việt Nam trong những năm gần đây. Tuy nhiên, với số lượng chỉ khoảng 500 DN (chỉ chiếm khoảng 1% tổng số DN Việt Nam) tiếp cận và áp dụng quản trị tinh gọn cho thấy, DN Việt vẫn còn quá "thờ ơ" với mô hình tư duy tiên tiến này (theo hội thảo “Áp dụng quản trị tinh gọn trong doanh nghiệp Việt Nam”, 2014). Không những vậy, việc áp dụng chúng vào doanh nghiệp như thế nào lại là một câu chuyện hoàn toàn khác. Ở các công ty hiện nay, quá trình áp dụng LM vào hệ thống sản xuất hay dịch vụ đang là một vấn đề hết sức khó khăn, đó là chưa kể còn rất nhiều công ty chưa nhận thức được tầm quan trọng hay lợi ích mà nó mang lại. Cụ thể, có rất nhiều doanh nghiệp da giày, dệt may, điện – điện tử… đều áp dụng mô hình này nhưng chỉ có khoảng 2% doanh nghiệp thành công (theo Thanh Nhã, trang Doanh nhân Sài gòn, 2016). Một nghiên cứu được thực hiện với các doanh nghiệp sản xuất đã từng tham gia các khóa đào tạo Lean – TPS do Toyota Việt Nam phối hợp tổ chức đến năm 2013, đã cho thấy không có công ty nào tiến hành triển khai thực hiện Lean một cách toàn diện, đặc biệt là áp dụng phong cách quản lý Lean có hệ thống. Hầu hết họ mới chỉ dừng lại ở cấp độ áp dụng đơn lẻ một số công cụ của Lean (Theo Nguyễn Đạt Minh và Nguyễn Danh Nguyên, 2013).

Practical, streamlined administration thinking have been introduced and applied in Vietnam in recent years. However, with only about 500 DN (only about 1% of the total number of DN Vietnam) approach and adopt streamlined governance shows, Vietnamese FIRMS are still too "apathy" with this advanced thinking model (according to the workshop on "application of streamlined management in Vietnam business", 2014). Not so, applying them on how business again is a completely different story. In the current company, the process applied to the LM production system or service is a difficult issue, that's not to mention also a lot of companies are not yet aware of the importance or benefits that it brings. In particular, there are many business leather shoes, textiles, electronics ... are applying this model but only about 2% of business success (in the business page, Saigon, 2016). A study was done with the producers have participated in the training course Lean-TPS Vietnam co-organized by Toyota to 2013, has shown no company would proceed with implementing Lean in a comprehensive manner, especially to apply Lean management style. Most of them just stopped at the level applied singly some tools of Lean (according to Nguyen Minh Nguyen Danh Nguyen and Reach, 2013).
