Dầu creozot, một chất lỏng màu đen hoặc nâu, là chất chống mục, mối
và mọt tốt, ít bị rửa trôi, không hút ẩm, không bay hơi, không phá hoại gỗ và
kin loại, có thể cháy, khó thấm vào gỗ (chỉ được 1 - 2 mm), mùi hắc, tạo ra
trên mặt gỗ một lớp bền làm gỗ khó khô. Khi dùng creozot phải đun nóng
đến 50 - 600C.
Không nên dùng dầu creozot để tẩm gỗ bên trong nhà và kho thực
phẩm, công trình ngầm và các kết cấu gần nguồn cháy.
Dầu antraxen là một chất lỏng xanh vàng, có tác dụng chống mục, mối
mọt mạnh; bay hơi chậm, ngâm chiết kiềm yếu, không phá hoại gỗ và kim
loại. Dầu antraxen được sản xuất từ guđrông than đá. Tính chất và phạm vi
sử dụng của nó giống như creozot.
Bột nhão được phân ra loại bitum và loại silicat.
