I.Tổng quan.
Bùn cống rãnh, bùn cặn hệ thống thoát nước có độ ẩm lớn, thành phần hữu cơ cao, nhiều vi khuẩn gây bệnh, trứng giun sán và có mùi hôi khó chịu. Độ ẩm của bùn cống rãnh, bùn cặn cống thoát nước và sông mương khoảng 75 – 92%. Khi nạo vét để vận chuyển, độ ẩm còn lại khoảng 50 – 80%. Các số liệu bùn cặn cống rãnh và kênh mương thoát nước một số đô thị được trình bày trong Bảng 1 ở trên.
Các loại bùn cống rãnh này dễ gây ô nhiễm môi trường, đặc biệt là bốc mùi hôi thối khó chịu gây ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng đến vấn đề bảo đảm sức khỏe người dân vùng quanh cống rãnh, làm giảm sút oxy và mất cân bằng sinh thái trong nguồn nước mặt. Với số lượng lắng đọng lớn, bùn cặn, bùn cống rãnh trên mạng lưới thoát nước gây cản trở dòng chảy, hạn chế điều kiện tiêu thoát nước, đặc biệt là thời gian đầu mùa mưa.
Chính vì những đặc tính trên mà hiện nay vấn đề xử lý bùn cống rãnh đặc biệt ưu tiên xử lý mùi hôi thoát ra từ bùn. Có thể nói rằng, vấn đề xử lý mùi hôi là một việc làm không dễ dàng thực hiện, bởi vì bùn cống rãnh chiếm một khối lượng khổng lồ không thể dùng những biện pháp đơn giản mà có thể xử lý được. Quy trình xử lý nó hết sức phức tạp, mà hiện nay theo được biết thì ở Việt Nam chưa có một quy trình công nghệ nào có thể xử lý triệt để vấn đề mùi hôi từ bùn, mà chỉ là sử dụng các chế phẩm sinh học như EM, vi sinh vật, các phương pháp sinh học để khử mùi hôi từ đó tái chế bùn cống rãnh thành các sản phẩm có thể sử dụng phục vụ sản xuất, sinh hoạt của con người…
Nạo vét bùn cặn, bùn cống rãnh trên các tuyến cống, kênh, mương thoát nước và hồ điều hoà theo đúng định kỳ vừa hạn chế được ô nhiễm môi trường do thiếu hụt oxy trong nước kênh hồ nơi có bùn cặn tích tụ, vừa đảm bảo được chế độ dòng chảy để tiêu thoát nước mùa mưa. Nạo vét bùn cặn, bùn cống rãnh cũng góp phần hạn chế mùi và màu trong nước thải cống rãnh kênh mương.
Bùn cống rãnh, bùn cặn nạo vét có độ ẩm lớn cần phải được tách nước sơ bộ ngay tại nơi nạo vét. Bằng các biện pháp như quay ly tâm, tạo xung… hiệu quả tách nước sơ bộ rất cao, làm giảm được từ 20 – 50% lượng nước ban đầu trong bùn cống rãnh, bùn cặn. Tách nước sơ bộ tại điểm tập kết bùn cặn sẽ giảm đáng kể khối lượng vận chuyển cũng như hạn chế được lượng nước chảy dọc đường trên tuyến vận chuyển.
