Trường mà tôi đang học, trường đại học hang hải việt nam. Mỗi năm đóng góp cho ngành hang hải rất nhiều những: kĩ sư, thủy thủ, và những người có thể làm trong nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau như: kế toán, luật, an toàn hang hải và có cả ngày xây dựng… Lẽ ra, những sinh viên có thể tốt nghiệp đúng hạn và tìm cho mình một công việc phù hợp với ngành mà mình học. Nhưng rồi lại mất thêm vài tháng, thậm chí là năm để hoàn thành những môn nợ và các chứng chỉ đầu ra: tin học và chủ yếu là tiếng anh.
Vì sao các bạn lại không nhận ra tầm quan trọng của tiếng anh từ sớm mà học nó, để rồi giờ đây mất bao thời gian, công sức, tiền bạc và đặc biệt là mất đi cơ hội vào những công ty lớn với những mức lương hấp dẫn. Ở đây, tôi không nói tiếng anh chỉ dừng ở mức ra trường. Giả sử như các bạn có giỏi các môn khác, các môn chuyên ngành, nhưng các bạn không nói được tiếng anh?. Đương nhiên, bạn mất đi cơ hội được tuyển dụng vào những công ty nước ngoài, những công ty lớn. Hay thậm chí những công ty trong nước bây giờ cũng đang và sẽ áp dụng hình thức tuyển dụng có bao gồm kĩ năng tiếng anh, bên cạnh những kiến thức chuyên ngành, hiểu biết và những kĩ năng khác của bạn. Một điều cần phải nhắc đến, bên cạnh việc tiếp thu những kiến thức trên trường lớp, thì một cái rất là quan trọng với cuộc sống hiện tại, công việc trong tương lai đó là kĩ năng mềm. Khi bạn làm cho những công ty nước ngoài. Có những công ty, họ sẵn sang đào tạo lại những kiến thức chuyên ngành, để bạn có thể làm theo ý họ. Nhưng, đó là bạn đã có nền tảng và đã biết ngôn ngữ của họ, ngôn ngữ phổ biến đấy là tiếng anh. Ngược lại, giả sử họ vẫn muốn đào tạo bạn nhưng bạn không thể tiếp thu, vì khoảng cách ngôn ngữ giữa con người với con người. Đó chỉ là giả sử mà thôi, còn sự thật,nếu bạn không có ít nhất là tiếng anh, thì đừng mong có cơ hội được đào tạo lại ở những công ty đó, chứ chưa nói đến làm việc. Theo mình, đó chỉ là một phần mà thực tế đã chỉ ra rằng giữa con người vẫn còn khoảng cách với nhau, chính vì những hạn chế về ngôn ngữ.
Ở một khía cạnh khác. Trong thời kì hội nhập như hiện nay, việc tìm hiểu nền văn hóa, kinh tế, xã hội với các nước bạn, đặc biệt là các nước phương Tây: Châu Âu và Châu Mỹ – những nước đang hơn chúng ta về mọi thứ, chúng ta chưa học tập được nhiều ở họ là vì khoảng cách địa lý, ngôn ngữ, chúng ta ngại tiếp xúc với họ. Tuy nhiên, với số ít những người được tiếp xúc, sinh sống và làm việc tại các nước trên là vì chắc chắn 1 điều là họ biết ngôn ngữ, biết tiếng anh, họ đi trước chúng ta để rồi họ thành công và đa số trở về nước đều là những con người văn minh, thành đạt. Nếu họ trở về,ở lại đất nước thì cũng sẽ đóng góp tích cực cho đất nước, đó là sự thật. Một minh chứng điển hình cho điều đó chính là Chủ Tịch Hồ Chí Minh vĩ đại – Người đã từng đi và sống tại rất nhiều nước, học được rất nhiều điều hay tại mỗi nơi mà người đi qua. Để rồi trở về quê hương Việt Nam giúp cho đất nước được hòa bình giải phóng. Người biết đến khoảng 8 thứ tiếng. Trong đó, Người rất giỏi tiếng anh. Chúng ta vẫn thường hay được dạy làm theo lời bác, chúng ta đã học rất nhiều những thứ từ Bác thì không có nghĩa gì chúng ta lại không học tiếng anh như bác đã từng học và rất giỏi đến cả 8 ngôn ngữ. Vì vậy, đã học thì học cho thật nhiều những điều tốt đẹp, hãy học tiếng anh vì đó là một điều tốt đẹp.
