Nhìn chung, công tác đo đạc lập bản đồ địa chính đã được Quận 12 cũng như TP. Hồ Chí Minh quan tâm thực hiện, trên địa bàn Quận 12 đã thực hiện công tác đo đạc và thành lập bản đồ giải thửa theo Chỉ thị 299/TTG của Thủ tướng Chính phủ ban hành ngày 10/11/1980; thực hiện công tác đo đạc, chụp không ảnh và thiết lập các bản đồ địa chính theo Chỉ thị 02/CT ngày 18/01/1992 của UBND Thành phố.
Năm 2003, toàn Quận được tiến hành đo đạc lại và lập bộ bản đồ địa chính mới, sản phẩm được bàn giao vào cuối năm 2004 và được sử dụng làm tài liệu để thực hiện công tác kiểm kê đất đai năm 2005, đây là cơ sở cho công tác quản lý đất đai và thành lập hệ thống bản đồ chuyên đề. Hệ thống bản đồ địa chính trên địa bàn Quận 12 được đo đạc mới theo hệ tọa độ Quốc gia VN 2000, tổng cộng gồm có 549 tờ, trong đó có 391 tờ tỷ lệ 1/500, 153 tờ tỷ lệ 1/1000 và 5 tờ tỷ lệ 1/2000 được nghiệm thu vào cuối năm 2004 và đầu năm 54 2005. Hệ thống bản đồ địa chính này vừa được đo đạc mới cho nên loại hình sử dụng đất trên bản đồ ít sự khác biệt so với thực tế. Tuy nhiên nội dung của các tờ bản đồ vẫn còn một số sai khác về ranh thửa, diện tích so với thực tế.
